So what is Transition Coaching exactly and how does it differ from other forms of coaching?

Well, Transition is the process of changing from one state to another, and it often requires us to let go of the old before we can fully embrace the new Typically the people we work with are joining, rejoining, moving through or leaving an organisation, or part of an organisation. Examples might be:

  • Senior leaders returning from a sabbatical, a long illness or maternity leave
  • Expats returning to their home country after a number of years working abroad
  • Field Leaders moving to work in the Head Office, or the other way around.
  • Senior Leaders retiring after many years with the company.
  • Leaders moving from one division to another

In each case, as well as the demands of the new role, there will be other less visible differences to deal with, situations to leave behind and new ones to get to grips with. Things will be subtly or dramatically different and some support through these transitions can significantly increase the person’s confidence and ability to adapt to the new circumstances quickly, begin contributing to the business needs and leading the way forward.
