Two sisters were arguing over who should have the last orange. They were becoming very angry and upset. Their mother couldn’t stand it any longer, and was tempted to cut the orange down the middle and give them half each, just to get some peace.

She thought for a moment, and decided to ask her daughters why they wanted the orange. One sister said, because she wanted to eat it, the second sister, because she wanted to use the peel to make a cake. The mother was surprised at her discovery, as were the sisters. By asking the question, both sisters could have exactly what they wanted.
