Gestalt in Organisations (GIO) is very much about working with people as 'human beings' rather than 'work machines'.

It is a philosophy that is:

  • Grounded in the here and now.
  • Emphasizes that each person is responsible for his or her own destiny.
  • Respects the client as the best expert on themselves.
  • Focuses on the client's perception of reality.
  • Aims to increase awareness both of self and of interconnectedness with others.
  • Works with 'what is'; change results from being more fully oneself.
  • The coach is an active participant in the process.
  • The coach is willing to not have the answers, to sit with the client in the ‘creative void’, allowing something new and surprising to emerge.
  • The wider environment is taken into account; past present and future, the individual, the organisation and the culture.
GIO also encourages creative experiments that arise in the moment to work through a particular problem, challenge or opportunity.
